Organized as a business improvement district in 1996, the West Hollywood Design District is a concentration of more than 300 high-end establishments within a walkable radius of Melrose Avenue, Beverly Boulevard and Robertson Boulevard. They specialize in home design, art, fashion, dining and beauty and include Stella McCartney, Christian Louboutin and Rag & Bone among the fashion retailers. Urth Caffé, which may have been the inspiration for The Planet cafe in "The L Word" is in the neighborhood.
