One of the country's leading cultural institutions, the Kennedy Center does double duty as the official living memorial to President John F. Kennedy. There are six theaters in the complex, with seating for 7,000, and events from jazz and pop to opera and ballet. They also host traveling companies, and you can often find the latest Broadway shows and Royal Shakespeare Company productions. There is a performance series called The Millenium Stage, which offers a free event every night at 6 pm. Main grounds open year-round.
