Located atop Mount St. Alban in northwest DC, the National Cathedral is one of the highest topographical points in the city.  The Gothic structure, complete with gargoyles, spires, and stained glass windows, is the sixth largest cathedral in the world. Technically an Episcopal church, it is open for worship to all people, and often hosts cultural events open to the public, with the Cathedral Choir performing Evensong Monday through Thursday at 5:30 pm. Don't miss the Bishop's Garden to the rear of the grounds; meant to evoke monastery gardens of the Middle Ages, it's a tranquil gem of flowerbeds and hidden benches, and a perfect place to capture romantic photographs.
