The Gothic Quarter, dating from medieval times, is a labyrinth of small streets where most vehicular traffic is barred. Best to walk, bike or take a Segway tour. Check out Plaça del Pi, which has the 14th century Santa María del Pi, street artists, boutiques, cafés and food stalls. Wander back streets and alleys in search of antiques, ceramics and bric-a-brac. Visit one of Europe's few surviving medieval synagogues. The quarter is also full of restaurants, bars and nightlife, but be alert for pickpockets!
